What is Your Creative Outlet? Try One Today, It’s Good For Your Health!

We are all born with an innate desire to express ourselves.

There are some of us fortunate enough, on this journey, to discover creative outlets to help express ourselves, connect and communicate with others. They come in many forms: fashion, science, religion, sport, community engagement, philanthropy, travel, music, writing, the arts (and the list goes on).

For me, it’s the creation of art.

When I say art, I mean a few things. Art in my life means writing, painting, photography, and cooking. These are the pillars of my creative outlet, and the activities that help me to express myself, connect and communicate with others.

I find that these things calm me, distress me, help me to express my thoughts, feelings, hopes, dreams, inspirations, sorrows, the ups and downs that inevitably happen in life.

Creativity is whatever you want it to be.

You do not have to be a fine artist or expert to do it. You don’t even need to have experience. It is more about the act of creating than anything else. So I am going to share some of the benefits I have found from my outlet and hope that it might inspire you to discover an outlet or continue to use yours to express yourself, as you are.

The fact is, the process of making art— whether that be writing, painting, singing, dancing, or anything in between — is good for you!

There are physical and mental benefits from creating art, expressing ourselves, and sharing something with the world. For example,

  • Creating Relieves Stress
  • Art Encourages Creative Thinking
  • Art Boosts Self-Esteem and Provides a Sense of Accomplishment
  • Art Increases Brain Connectivity and Plasticity

It is plain to see the positive benefits of creating art… so what is my outlook or suggestion?
Take out a notebook and start writing. Put pencil to paper and sketch a drawing. Turn up the music and dance like noone is watching. Pick up a paintbrush and play with some paint. Try a new recipe in the kitchen. Grab your camera and take a photograph of something that moves you. Start a genuine conversation and make it meaningful.

Is there a project you have always wanted to try? Or talents you want to exercise?

Build something. Share something. Craft something. Make more art. Your health and happiness will improve and you will fulfill the desire to express yourself, connect and communicate with the world like never before.

It is an incredible feeling when you find that ‘thing’ that makes you feel more like yourself and better able to express yourself to the world. I say express your selves, embrace it, love it and share it with the ones you love, share it with the world if that is something you desire.

Try Something New. Find An Outlet. Express Yourself.
